Frequently Asked Questions

fREQUENTLY aSKED qUESTIONS

dO I Need a Driving Licence?

YES! You will need to bring a valid driving licence with you if you wish to drive a snow mobile. We will need to see this before you can drive. Passengers do not need a driving licence.

This is Norwegian Law!

How Fast do We Go?

We drive at around 20kph which ensures everyone is comfortable and safe. It also means that you appreciate the scenery rather than it passing in a blur. We do not recommend this tour for adrenaline seekers expecting full throttle. The Snowmobiles are a “tool” for getting out into the wild and experiencing nature in all its spectacular glory.

Does Everyone Get to Drive?

Everyone with a valid driving licence will get the opportunity to drive, and we switch drivers at the halfway point. There are 2 guests per snowmobile unless you have paid for the “private” option.

Are Food & Drinks Provided?

YES! On return to Camp Troll you will be provided with a locally produced warm soup and hot drinks around the campfire.  On the tour itself, we will stop and enjoy a warm drink whilst taking in the view.  Vegetarian/Vegan and other dietary requirements can be catered for. Please bring any additional snacks with you.

What Do I Wear?

Although you need to dress warmly for the Arctic winter, we will provide thermal overalls, boots, woollen socks mittens, balaclavas, and helmets.

Please bring any additional clothing you require with you.

How do I get There?

We are based near Svensby ferry terminal in Lyngen, so we are simple to find. We can arrange transfers from Tromsø, If you come in your own car you are responsible for additional costs eg the ferry transfer. There is free parking at Camp Troll, however please park in the designated areas.

Is the tour suitable for children?

Children over the age of 7 are welcome, as long as they are able to hold onto a snowmobile unassisted.  All children under the age of 18  will need to be accompanied by an adult

How Long Do I spend on the snowmobile?

From leaving Camp Troll to arriving back at camp is approximately 2.5 hours. This is dependent on weather conditions.

How Long is the Snowmobile Season?

Generally, the season is from the beginning of December until the end of March. Please note this is dependent on weather conditions and will vary from season to season.

I Have Never Driven A Snowmobile Before!

Our tours are great for beginners, and you will be given full instructions on how to handle your snowmobile before setting off. Our guides will support you on every aspect of the journey.

Will I have to Share my snowmobile?

Gererally there are 2 guests per snowmobile and you may have to share with someone else (even if you have booked for 1 person). You can pay for a “private” snowmobile however this is subject to availability and needs to be booked in advance.
